Volvo Trucks’ New FH has been crowned International Truck of the Year 2014 by a jury of 25 senior commercial vehicle journalists, representing 25 magazines throughout Europe including our media source, Commercial Motor.

The FH’s winning score of 116 votes was enough to beat DAF’s New XF with 105 votes into second place.

Mercedes-Benz’s Arocs range of construction vehicles finished third, while the Scania Streamline and MAN’s Euro-6 range were fourth and fifth respectively.

New FH drew particular praise from the IToY jury for its quiet and comfortable cab interior, driver-friendly controls and dash-layout, and innovative rear-view mirrors with less-obtrusive mirror-housings providing improved all-round driver vision.

The judges were also impressed by New FH’s I-Shift automated transmission with optional fuel-saving I-See software, along with its improved steering, optional independent front suspension and the ability of workshops to monitor the condition of the truck remotely, via Volvo’s Telematics Gateway, in order to minimize maintenance and repair costs and reduce unwanted down-time.

Summing up the jury’s vote, IToY chairman Gianenrico Griffini commented: “Volvo Trucks has delivered a completely-new heavy-duty truck which, with its innovative cab, hi-tech driveline components and advanced maintenance solutions sets a new benchmark in the automotive industry”.
