The first Flying Griffin – the Limited Edition V8 created in celebration of Scania’s new range-topping 770 horsepower V8 engine – has now arrived in the UK.  Just 16 examples of the Flying Griffin are being released and such was the interest generated by their launch last September that the entire complement was spoken for within six hours.  The remaining 15 units will be delivered over the coming months.

“Operators the length and breadth of the country are passionate in their desire to own a flagship model Scania truck, and demand for the Flying Griffin has been simply incredible – with no pun intended, it clearly demonstrates the exceptional pulling power of the Scania V8!” says Vincente Connolly, UK Sales Director for Scania (Great Britain) Limited.  “No other brand can match the cachet of a Limited Edition Scania.  The sight of a fully-loaded 770 S tractor unit with its unique pearlescent white paint finish and a livery dominated by a flying version of our iconic griffin motif, personifying both strength and intelligence, is sure to turn heads wherever it goes – it really is a very special truck indeed.”

Every Flying Griffin is being built with a Scania Highline cab featuring a unique numbered Limited Edition cab badge, LED premium lighting pack, chrome roof air horns and Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels.  They will also feature the matt finish dark grey V8 grille announced by Scania in late 2020.

Inside, three more Flying Griffin badges are located – one in each door and one above the passenger seat.  Scania’s V8 styling pack is also included, as is its infotainment and navigation pack, sleeper storage pack, coffee maker, refrigerator and microwave.

In addition to the vehicle itself, each Flying Griffin purchaser will receive a unique Jackson ‘King V’ electric guitar. These will be decorated with a bespoke airbrushing by Sims Spray Shop, whose numerous famous clients include Pink Floyd’s Dave Gilmour, Queen’s Brian May and The Rolling Stones.  The guitars, together with a Flying Griffin certificate of authentication, will be presented to their owners at a special event to be held later this year. “To commemorate the occasion, we’re inviting our customers to join the pantheon of Rock Gods by choosing between the guitar’s unique Flying Griffin livery or incorporating their own branding into the design,” says Vincente Connolly.
