Wise Logistics has taken delivery of three S.CS FREEPOST trailers from Schmitz Cargobull to help speed up its loading times and reduce repair and maintenance costs.
The Northamptonshire general haulage firm has a long-standing relationship with Europe’s leading trailer manufacturer and was keen to add the new pillarless curtainsiders to its fleet having seen them being built on a factory tour.
Manufactured at the Schmitz Cargobull UK plant in Manchester – and designed specifically to meet the needs of the UK & Irish market – the S.CS FREEPOST offers quick, easy and safe side loading by incorporating a bolted galvanised steel cant rail and fixed aluminium roof sheet, as well as a reinforced chassis structure.
Marcin Zajac, Managing Director at Wise Logistics, says: “The roof supports you get in a traditional curtainsider can be an issue. They tend to get damaged by fork-lifts during collections for deliveries, so it’s great to add these pillarless FREEPOSTS to our trailer fleet.
“They are already proving to be great assets. They make loading faster and easier and we will see less damage to the trailer – they are the perfect solution for us.”
The new trailers will be working with Volvo FH 6×2 tractor units, transporting a wide range of goods from Wise Logistics’ 50,000 sq ft warehouse facility in Corby. They join a 20-strong trailer fleet at the business, the majority of which is made up of Schmitz Cargobull products.
“I would say 80 per cent of our trailers are built by Schmitz,” adds Zajac. “I’ve been in transport since I was a young kid and have grown up around Schmitz Cargobull trailers. It’s a name and brand I trust and respect. We are very happy to see this pillarless design added to its portfolio and the fact they are now built here in the UK is even better as it will help ensure lead times are shorter.”
In addition to high body stability, the design of the S.CS FREEPOST is focused on handling, the safety of the goods and the safety of the driver and those loading the vehicle. With no sliding posts, the trailers offer the driver free, lateral loading and unloading with a side aperture height of up to 3,200mm.
To facilitate unloading, the curtain can be tensioned from both the front and the rear. Driver safety is improved further by the Schmitz Cargobull Susi-Rail, with electrical and pneumatic connections which can be moved to the edge of the trailer to make coupling easier.
In addition, due to the bolted design, should the cant rail get damaged either by fork-lift masts or even a bridge strike it is possible to replace one of the five individual sections rather than having to replace the whole rail – which can be extremely costly.
Like all Schmitz Cargobull trailers, the S.CS FREEPOST – which is available in different heights from 4,200mm to 4,800mm – is also equipped with the proven repair-friendly MODULOS chassis with a 10-year guarantee against rust-through.
The trailers are factory fitted with the TrailerConnect® telematics system from Schmitz Cargobull, as standard.
