Ryder is supplying 10 new DAF box trucks to Metalweb, a leading metals stockholder and processor.

The vehicles comprise five CF230 18-tonne box trucks with 8.5-metre body length, three LF180 12-tonne box trucks with 7.3-metre body length, both models having a 4×2 axle configuration, plus two CF330 26-tonne box trucks, with 9.1-metre body length and 6×2 axle configuration.

The vehicles replace Metalweb’s entire fleet on a like-for-like basis.

The new DAF box trucks are being provided through a supply and full service lease contract, which runs for six years.

Birmingham-headquartered Metalweb is a stockist and first stage processor of metals, notably aluminium alloys, and serves customers across the UK in a variety of market sectors, ranging from niche firms to major OEMs. The company delivers around 10,000 tonnes of material a year to approximately 1,000 customers, more than 90% in the UK.

“The requirements to cut, pack, and deliver on time are high in a demanding market place where customer service is key, so it is important for Metalweb’s operations to have a transport fleet it can rely on,” says Karl Weston, Metalweb Managing Director. “Metalweb is pleased to have secured a new fleet, sourced through its chosen service partner Ryder.

“I’m delighted to continue the next step of investment in our business. Metalweb as a company has always believed that investment in customer service is vital for us and our customers to succeed, and this is just the latest example of that philosophy.”

John Murray, Ryder Sales & Marketing Director, says: “We spent two years consulting with Metalweb on their bespoke requirements, involving all parts of their business, before deciding on the vehicle specifications. The robust bodies with reinforced headboards were specifically chosen to suit the metal products that Metalweb supplies, and also adhere to the company’s strict health and safety protocols.

“We are pleased to be supplying the new DAF trucks to Metalweb, and look forward to further developing our relationship with the business and supporting their growth.”
