Ryder’s delivery of replacement trucks and trailers to Longs of Leeds heralds the arrival of the haulier’s new livery for 2017.

Ryder is supplying 50 Daf XF460 tractor units, fitted with Super Space Cabs and AS Tronic gearboxes, and 40 curtainsided trailers from SDC.

Longs director Andrew Long says: “This is our new livery for 2017, it’s a cleaner, fresher look.

“The trucks also mark our first experience of Euro-6,” Long adds. “We invested heavily in the latter stages of Euro-5 so we weren’t into Euro-6 early, allowing the technology to bed in. We are currently carrying out comprehensive driver and technician training in conjunction with Daf.”

The vehicles are based at Longs’ Leeds and Hull depots, handling bulk full-load freight for the haulier’s customers in the drinks, food and paper products sectors. They will be maintained at a combination of Ryder’s and Longs’ workshops.

Longs runs a fleet of 100 vehicles, approximately half of which are supplied by Ryder.

Long comments: “We were originally a Hill Hire customer and continued when the company was acquired by Ryder. We appreciate Ryder’s flexibility and also the proximity of their Hull location to our own Hull depot. This is the third batch of vehicles we have ordered from Ryder.”

John Murray, Ryder sales and marketing director, says: “We’re proud to support a well-known business like Longs of Leeds. The company is typical of an increasing number of firms in the transport and haulage sectors that are using lease options as an important part of their vehicle acquisition strategy.”
