FreshLinc, the Spalding-based temperature-controlled supply chain management specialist, has taken delivery of its first 20 Scania S-series trucks, all of which are 500 S 6×2/2 mid-lift tractor units equipped with Scania’s 500 horsepower 12.7-litre engine.  Split between three of the company’s divisions – FreshLinc, FloraLinc and DirectLinc – the vehicles will run both in the UK and on the organisation’s European operations. The order has been fulfilled by Scania (Great Britain) Limited’s Spalding branch, which will also be responsible for the majority of servicing work required throughout the three year R&M period included in the deal.

“We have once again chosen Scania as they continue to impress in terms of their fuel returns, driver acceptance and good service coverage, both in the UK and throughout Europe,” comments FreshLinc Fleet Engineer, Andy Marchant.  “The move to the larger S-series with Highline cab is due to its suitability for our European operations as well as driver acceptance and residual values.”

The three divisions of FreshLinc receiving the vehicles are:

  • FreshLinc, which is involved in the carriage of temperature-controlled produce to retailers and food producers
  • FloraLinc, a recently-launch operation which moves goods from horticultural suppliers to garden centres and retailers
  • DirectLinc, a container operation involved primarily in the movement of products to and from ports
