Environcom, the largest independently owned UK WEEE reuse and recycler, has taken on its first Montracon tipper and a BMI moving floor trailer from Ryder as it expands its operation.
Environcom specialises in the reuse of electrical appliances, repairing, cleaning, fully testing, and selling appliances, or harvesting them for spare parts to repair other products, or reducing them to fragments of raw materials to feed back into manufacturing.
Ryder is Environcom’s fleet provider and sourced the steel-bodied tipper from Montracon and the moving floor trailer from BMI Trailers, as well as a Daf CF460 6×2 tractor with AS Tronic transmission, Space Cab and dual-control PTO. Ryder is responsible for the servicing and maintenance of these vehicles.
Carl Sylvester, General Manager of Environcom’s Grantham site, explains: “We previously used third party hauliers to handle bulk recycled material, but recently decided to take care of this work ourselves. After gaining a unique and environmentally friendly way to dispose of polyurethane that would normally be landfilled, we needed to ensure this product arrived at our customer’s premises totally free of any contamination. These new trailers gives us total control of delivering our own product, at a much better price point and achieving our target 95% utilisation too.”
The new trailers feature electrically-operated sheeting. “We specified these for health and safety reasons: the driver doesn’t need to climb up to operate the sheets manually,” says Sylvester. Environcom has won consecutive International Safety Awards from the British Safety Council in 2016 and 2017 (the only UK recycler to do so).
