Cumbrian-based J T Leyland has added the first new Renault truck, an 18-tonne Range D18 wide 4×2 R280 curtainsider to its 20-strong HGV fleet.

As J T Leyland Owner, Mike Leyland, says: “We selected the Range D specifically because it is well-liked by – and suited to – our customer’s operations. They run them and like the 18-tonners, so we have gone with their recommendation as well as on our own positive experiences with used Renault trucks.”

The Range D, with curtainside body by TruckCraft Bodies Ltd and Anteo tuck-away tail lift, has been selected for J T Leyland’s multi-pallet regional deliveries in the LA and CA postcodes as part of its membership of the Pall-Ex Group. Acquired on a five-year lease through JDS Trucks Blackburn, this is the first new Renault truck for J T Leyland, which previously purchased used trucks.

Commenting on the new Range D, Mike Leyland adds: “It is a high-spec vehicle packed with optional extras including air conditioning, automatic engine cut-off, leather steering wheel, air-suspended comfort driver’s seat with heated cushion and seatback, roof deflector and cruise control. It’s also had the chassis and tail-lift painted in red to match J T Leyland’s branding perfectly.”

Equipped with Global Cab and fold down bunk, the new Range D gives the driver the option to sleep over should they get delayed on a job. The Global Cab has the benefit of being shorter than a full sleeper cab giving more space on the chassis and therefore providing greater flexibility for body applications.

Mike continues: “Our drivers gave us great feedback on the used Renault trucks, but I think they will be even more impressed when they hit the road in the new vehicle. It’s got everything they need for a productive and comfortable life on the road. In fact we are so happy with the Range D we will soon be adding a Renault Trucks Master van to the fleet too.”.
