A1 Services (Manchester) has taken delivery of three Volvo FMX 8×4 rigids with Marshall tipper bodies and Epsilon Palfinger M125L construction cranes, equipped with Kinshofer clamshell buckets, from Thomas Hardie Commercials, Trafford Park.

The trio is being used to support the company’s expansion in its niche service that sees it operating grabs in Manchester’s construction, utility and local authority market place.

A1 Services (Manchester) Director John Walsh says: “The Volvo FMX tippers with day cabs and grabs ideally suit this type of work. They’re rugged and extremely manoeuvrable, which means we can collect from pretty much anywhere. Essentially, with these trucks we have the capability and capacity to efficiently load and remove excavated material from highway utility works for recycling/disposal off-site.”

As well as developing this business, John says the company is committed to its traditional offering whereby it supports both construction and domestic projects. “Be it a building site or an individual having a driveway replaced, with these trucks we are perfectly equipped to safely and efficiently remove spoil.”

All three trucks are fitted with Volvo D13K 13-litre engines producing 420hp and the 12-speed I-Shift transmission. “The I-Shift gearbox is second-to-none,” adds John. “I would say the drivers are very happy with both the transmission and the trucks overall.”

As the three FMX find their feet around Manchester, John has already placed an order for another five new Volvo tipper trucks. “Strategically, we are now starting down a path that will see a renewal of much of our 35-strong fleet. Volvo trucks are recognised for their build quality, reliability, fuel efficiency and safety and with the support of Thomas Hardie Commercials in Trafford Park I have confidence about the future.”
