Around 2,800 trucks gathered for the annual get-together of trucks, drivers and industry at this year’s Peterborough event. With record temperatures on the May Day Bank Holiday in Peterborough DAF, Iveco, Mercedes Benz, Renault Trucks, Scania and Volvo along with many industry exhibitors, were all there and making contact with the biggest gathering of operators and drivers in Truckfest’s 36 year history.

Renault Trucks brought the Red Hot Chilli Pipers to entertain the audience both on their stand and in the main arena. DAF also celebrated their 90th Anniversary this year.  Mercedes Benz had a welcome return of their Stunt Cycle Team, ‘Animal Action Sports Tour,’ who wowed the crowds on both days.

Last year Truckfest resurrected the Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2017 it was presented to Knowles Transport and this year awarded to the Malcolm Group. The award is presented annually and voted on by a panel of Industry Professionals. The Truckfest organisers were delighted when they were given this year’s recipient in November last year.

Andrew Malcolm was on hand with his family, dedicated members of his team and a superb array of commercial vehicles, some of which he had brought along from the Malcolm Group Heritage Centre.

Bob Limming, chatted to Andrew Malcolm, about the business over the years which was started by his grandfather in 1925, and Colin Ward presented him with his Award.

Previous recipients have included the Stobart Group, Irlam’s and W M Morrison.

As well as the action from monster trucks, industry related events and the special competition of celebrities in the main arena, Truckfest also saw the Plaza come alive with tribute bands, Noasis and Gladness, together with sensation Marty Moan, all wrapped together with action characters for the youngsters. The main arena presentation being provided by Ice Road Trucker Todd Dewey, and from half way round the World special guests Outback Truckers, Yogi and Steve. What a fantastic weekend.

Truckfest now rolls on to the next location which is Truckfest East at Trinity Park, Ipswich on the 16th & 17th June. See the website for all of the forthcoming dates and remember ‘there is a Truckfest near you!’

Here’s to the next 36 years at Peterborough.
