The UK’s favourite parcel delivery company DPD has launched a new in-app parcel sending service to enable consumers to send parcels anywhere in the UK and to more than 20 countries across Europe with an easy to use, paperless process.

The new ‘send parcel’ function within the app takes the user through a simple step-by-step process. There is no need to print a label, the app’s shop finder function helps to locate the nearest DPD Pickup shops and the user then simply has to show the QR code generated within the app when they drop off the parcel at their chosen shop.

The ‘sent parcels’ section in the app then shows all your shipped parcels in one place and tracks them at every stage, with push notifications to alert you when the parcel has been picked up from the shop and successfully delivered to the recipient.

The ground-breaking Your DPD app was launched in May 2016 and now has close to 3 million users in the UK.  It is packed with features that enable consumers to personalise their DPD experience, including the ability to specify preferred neighbours for deliveries if they aren’t home, provide multiple delivery addresses, share a picture of their ‘safe place’ for deliveries and specify if they wish to avoid deliveries around the school run.

DPD’s CEO Dwain McDonald commented: “The app has been hugely popular with consumers as it gives them a number of exclusive benefits.  As a result, we get loads of feedback from app users and in-app shipping was something a lot of people have been asking for.

“Consumers told us that they don’t always find sending parcels that straightforward.  So, we’ve created a really intuitive and streamlined process, that is ideal for the occasional sender.  Plus, they get the peace of mind of knowing they can track their sent parcels and the recipient will get the full DPD Predict service, with all the usual in-flight options.

“We’re still surprised by just how popular the app has been.  You can’t compare it to a lot of other popular smartphone apps, but in terms of download numbers it is right up there.  The app works so well because it allows us to really personalise the service we can provide users and it pulls together all of our different options, making them work even smarter.

“The reality is that app users get a better service.  Because consumers can control every aspect of their delivery, we have a higher first-time delivery rate for app users.  Plus, they now have a great new way to send parcels too!”

The app is free to download from Apple and Android app stores and DPD has produced a short film to explain how it works: https://vimeo.com/dpdgroup/review/272557571/c332e8e68f
