Fortec managed to see off Pall-Ex and claim victory in the first ever Pall-Ex Group charity shield at the King Power Stadium.
Friday evening marked the first ever Pall-Ex Group charity shield football match, with teams from Pall-Ex and Fortec going head-to-head at the King Power Stadium, in hopes of claiming victory.
However, a triumphant victory was not the only thing on the players’ minds, as the success of the event rested on raising funds to support the Ukraine humanitarian appeal.
Captained by Pall-Ex’s Joe Murfitt and Fortec’s Stuart White, the teams kicked off shortly after 6PM as the evening sun shone down on Filbert Way.
The team from Pall-Ex applied pressure in the early stages, eventually finding success after Gareth Fenton scored the first goal of the match to bring Pall-Ex into the lead.
There was fierce attack and strong defense from both teams, with Pall-Ex managing to hold on to their 1-0 lead as the first half drew to a close.
Half time entertainment saw ‘A Pound a Penalty’ give supporters the opportunity to take a penalty on a Premier League pitch, with the proceeds also supporting the #PLXUkraine appeal.
The second half kicked off with both teams pressing hard and hungry for the win.
Pall-Ex’s goalkeeper, Alex Poupzis, made some fantastic stops to deny Fortec, but Robert Skowronek managed to sneak one past and bring Fortec back into the game with an equaliser in the first minutes of the second half.
This spurred Pall-Ex on and a goal arrived soon after. A powerful strike from Craig Chapman regained the lead for Pall-Ex and brought a win ever-closer to their grasp.
But it was not to last, with Fortec’s Abel Louchbac scoring a late equaliser, forcing the game to go to penalties to decide the winning team.
After an exciting 60 minutes of football, a tense penalty shootout, and a few injuries along the way, Fortec proved to be triumphant after netting four penalties to Pall-Ex’s two.
Raising three times more than the initial £1,000 target, the event proved to be more than successful with over £3,000 going to the Disasters Emergency Committee to support Ukrainian refugees.
