The UK’s transition period after Brexit comes to an end this year and Palletways has taken action to train its staff and member network on the new rules that will come into effect from January 2021.

Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network and part of the Imperial Group, has partnered with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce to develop and deliver certified and fully accredited trade training on Brexit for internal staff and its network of 115+ members across the UK.

The training provides an understanding of what Brexit will mean for the logistics sector, Palletways, its members and their customers. Digitally delivered, it covers export and import terminology and processes including sanctions and embargoes, terms and documents and the implications for trade and how to understand commodity codes and customs procedures.

Three training modules are available; bronze for members who don’t trade internationally now or have limited experience shipping internationally by road, with silver and gold modules aimed at experienced international carriers. Sessions are interactive, and feature video content and a Q&A session, and there’s an end of course assessment which is marked and accredited by the Chamber.

Commenting on the importance of cutting through the confusion surrounding Brexit, Rob Gittins, Palletways’ UK managing director, said: “Brexit is complex and it can seem overwhelming. This is why it’s important we take steps now and make the necessary preparations so we’re in the best possible place come January 2021.

“The training, which we’ve spent seven months creating, implementing and delivering in partnership with the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, will guarantee we continue to deliver a high-quality service come January, whatever the outcome. It will put our members in the strongest possible position so they’re ready operationally for Brexit changes and help them manage the process as best they can.”

Mandy Haque, international director at the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, added: “We were delighted to be asked to support Palletways UK as a valuable member of the Chamber to deliver a bespoke package that covers the changes anticipated for the logistics industry due to leaving the EU. In addition, the content covers the key British Chambers’ of Commerce courses so each delegate that passes the assessment receives a recognised certificate. As well as the course content, we have a developed a portal for ongoing support to Palletways’ members that demonstrates our long-term partnership with the organisation and its members.”
