2018 marks Edge Transport’s 85th year, a milestone that will be much celebrated by this third generation family business. Edge Transport started life in 1933, and delivered goods for the army as part of the war effort – noble foundations that paved the way for a business that not only values its customers, but its team as well. Fittingly, as their 84th year draws to a close, Edge has just been awarded the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year; an accolade that could not be better timed nor more deserved. Because what really gives this company the edge is their steadfast commitment to quality, and their dynamic and driven team of people.

Born and bred in the North West, Edge Transport’s commitment to quality is across all aspects of their business. From their purpose built site in Desside, to a vehicle fleet that’s less than four years old, to their shareholder membership of Palletline; Edge is always striving to do better, be better and deliver better. And it’s their customers who reap the benefits. Not satisfied with being just another pallet distribution or warehouse company, the team behind the family name see themselves as problem solving logistics experts and manage every element of a customer consignment to provide seamless service from collection to destination. It’s no wonder that these efforts are being recognised by their peers time and time again.

Edge has been awarded Palletline’s Depot of the Year a record seven times, more than any other member during the awards’ 25 year history. They were also the first member to scoop both of Palletline’s most coveted awards: Depot of the Year and Delivery Depot of the Year. Plus, they were shortlisted for a Families Business Award in 2014, and a Daily Post Achievement Wales Award in 2015. This latest, most notable award is the icing on the cake for this progressive and forward-thinking company, but as good as it feels to be recognised by the Chamber of Commerce, what really matters to Edge is its people.

Businessman Ray Kroc once said “You’re only as good as the people you hire”, and that’s something of a core belief at Edge. From the small things, like fruit and free heathy snacks in the office, to company perks and a fantastic working environment, Edge invests as much thought into their staff as they do their fleet and distribution channels. Staff training is also paramount, with many of the current team having progressed through the business to higher levels of responsibility. During 2016 and 2017, for example, three of the traffic team were put through their Traffic Manager International CPC and eight of the drivers completed their Class 1. Another surprising and impressive fact about Edge is how many female drivers they employ; confirmation that their progressive attitude runs right through the company. In addition, Edge’s staff headcount increased from 48 in 2014 to 68 in 2017, making them a growing and sought-after employer in the area.

A local success story and something of a North West treasure, Edge Transport has grown and developed significantly in recent years. In this day and age, it’s inspiring to hear of such an agile and efficient family-owned business maintaining an emphasis on hard work, honesty and integrity. Delivering high quality storage and distribution solutions across the North West and North Wales, Edge Transport is your best bet if you’re looking to employ a local business you can really trust.
