Logistics giant Pall-Ex has moved its partnership with Staples Solutions (Staples) into the fast lane after securing a major new contract with Graham The Plumbers’ Merchants.

The two companies are providing a full warehousing, fulfilment and distribution service for the Saint-Gobain-owned merchant, operating from Staples’ 500,000 sq ft warehouse in Rockingham.

Freight will be transported by Pall-Ex, which has created a new groupage service for the contract along with two new jobs.

It currently transports over 100,000 pallets for Staples annually, orders worth around £0.5 billion in total.

The new contract is the result of providing Saint-Gobain firm Jewson with a high-quality service over the last 18 months and is being marked with the launch of Pall-Ex and Staples new joint livery.

Kevin Buchanan, Group managing director, comments: “Over the last 18 months we have worked closely with Staples to develop a full-service offering, increasing Pall-Ex’s corporate volume by 15% and our network volume by 5.2%.

“Our ability to adapt to the needs of our customers, continued investments in new technology and our commitment to working in partnership, has enabled us to win this significant new contract.

“Our newly created full-load & part load service, the capabilities of our network and the addition of two new Pall-Ex staff, who are based at the Staples site, will ensure we exceed the expectations of Grahams and Saint-Gobain.

“The launch of our striking new joint livery underlines this partnership and demonstrates how two industry leaders can achieve major contract wins and ambitious growth plans by working together.”

Kevin Lewis, supply chain director at Staples, comments: “Staples’ partnership with Pall-Ex has enabled us to develop a full-service offering of the highest quality and fully utilise our Rockingham facilities.

“Pall-Ex’s ability to exceed our strict On Time In Full (OTIF) delivery rates has helped to secure this new contract and their commitment to integrating and streamlining our IT systems paves the way for additional contracts of this scale.

“The core values of our companies are closely aligned, which ensures our customer-focused approach is maintained throughout, from warehousing to product delivery, while the Pall-Ex network supports our need to provide customers with the shortest possible lead times.

“Our growth ambitions echo those of Pall-Ex and we are delighted with the achievements of the partnership over the last 18 months.”

Staples is now a full solutions provider to UK businesses, with 50% of sales coming from non-core office products, including technology, workwear, janitorial supplies, washroom, breakroom and products bespoke to customer needs.
