Mid-Glamorgan-based bulk haulage, waste recycling specialist Alan Price & Sons latest Volvo truck features unique artwork celebrating the life of the company’s founder, the late Mr. Alan Price.
Supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West, Pontypridd, the Volvo FH-540 6×2 tag-axle tractor unit is the first new Volvo to join the 18-strong fleet for over five years as Alan Price & Sons has previously purchased late plate used Volvo FH and FMs in that time.
Ray Price, son of Alan, commissioned the special artwork in honour of his father who was originally a farmer in the Deri area of South Wales. Ray is also celebrating his ‘half-century’ with the family-owned company.
The artwork on the Globetrotter cab of the FH depicts company founder Alan Price with a herd of Red Deer, a species made famous as the subject of Victorian artist Sir Edwin Landseer’s painting ‘Monarch of the Glen’.
Always an innovator, whether in farming or haulage, Alan Price was among the first to invest in and develop the growing market for venison in the UK, when he created a deer farm in the valleys of South Wales close to the location of the firm’s current main operating centre.
The new Volvo will be engaged primarily on bulk waste transport up and down the M4 ‘corridor’ and is coupled to a BMI ejector trailer which is equipped with a donkey engine.
Ray Price says that company enjoys a good relationship with the Volvo marque and dealer Truck and Bus Wales & West: “We’ve been in waste haulage since 1996 and recycling for the last five years. We find that a Volvo is the best truck for our operation as they are very reliable and their longevity is very good. We go for the tag-axle as they are lighter and better than the double-drive on fuel.”
“However,” he adds, “It is the relationship we have with the dealer that clinched the deal. Truck and Bus Wales & West at Pontypridd, Avonmouth and Swindon couldn’t be more helpful. They tick all the boxes and bend over backwards to help us.”
