Nottinghamshire-based logistics firm, Mitchells of Mansfield, has invested £2m into the expansion of its fleet and premises to meet the growing demand for freight services across the East Midlands.

Mitchells of Mansfield has added 35,000 sq ft of building space to its existing premises which will help staff process in excess of 1,600 pallets per day, up from 800 they handled previously. The firm has also expanded its fleet following the purchase of an additional nine, 26 tonne vehicles.

Andy Mitchell, Principal at Mitchells of Mansfield, said: “As the demand for freight services in the region increased, we had to grow our operations substantially. We are confident that our new facility and fleet will help us to continue to deliver first class service for many years to come.”

Mitchells of Mansfield is based at Brierley Park Industrial Estate, Sutton in Ashfield. It is part of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing palletised freight network.

Palletways consists of 400 depots across Europe, of which more than 100 are in the UK. The company’s distribution networks are made up of independent transport companies, including Mitchells of Mansfield, who share each other’s resources to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market with the highest levels of service. The Group recently announced a 35 per cent growth in pan-European volumes handled, a figure which is expected to rise to 50 per cent in the next year.

Mitchells of Mansfield was founded in 1968 by Robert Mitchell. The firm has grown rapidly over the decade, joining Palletways as a founder member in 1995 under the guiding hand of Andrew Mitchell.
