Transport Manager, Gary Bingham says that the carbon footprint of the company’s activity is requested by clients more and more as each year passes. “In this respect, as Transport Manager I have to take a view on fuel consumption,” he says. “We are getting very good figures from the two Volvo FH tractor units, yet at the same time our drivers have at their disposal all the power they need. This level of performance versus fuel efficiency offers us tangible benefits in terms of both environmental impact and operating costs. Additionally, our drivers love these trucks. They think they’re fantastic. They’ve told me they’re the nicest truck to drive and the reliability is second-to-none. If one then considers the superb dealer support we’ve received from Hartshorne Motor Services, I would say our decision to invest in these Volvo FH tractor units was absolutely right.”
“Shaun Robson at Hartshorne’s was really supportive and we now have two excellent new trucks that suit our business, not only in terms of reliability and capability, but also when it comes to safety and the environment. Like Volvo, safety and the environment are two of the guiding principles at Ward Recycling, which is partially reflected in the company’s decision to invest in Volvo Trucks.”
“We have recycling sites at Woodville near Burton-on-Trent and Chesterfield as well as two sites in Ilkeston. Between them we recycle in excess of 25,000 tonnes of metal each month and a similar amount of commercial and industrial waste,” he explains.
While the two new Volvo FH tractor units are based at the company’s Woodville premises, they are expected to cover some 80,000 miles each year and will work across much of the UK.
Both trucks were specified with Globetrotter cabs and the D13K500 engines producing 500hp and I-Shift automated transmissions
