Pinden Managing Director Terry Bishop says: “Harry Moon at MC Group took it on board back in 2005 to manage the sale and aftersales support of trucks for us, believing that building a relationship with us could be the beginning of something big for the dealership and for Volvo Trucks. His belief in us at this early stage of the business was much appreciated and I’m delighted to say we now operate a fleet of some 65 trucks, the vast majority of which are Volvo.”
The latest additions, which operate under the Pinbins skip hire brand, mean Pinden now has some 38 skip trucks, 99% of which are either Volvo FEs or Volvo FLs.
“We like Volvo Trucks,” says Terry. “As a business we are expanding, and delivering on environmental and efficiency goals. Volvo Trucks play a vital role in helping us to realise our aspirations.”
Certainly, Pinden’s aspirations and the investments the company’s making in order to reach them are nothing short of sizeable.
“We process some 250,000 tons of construction and demolition waste per annum here at our 75 acre Longfield site and by the end of this month, after a £7 million investment programme in a state-of-the-art recycling plant, we’ll be recycling100%,” says Terry with some pride.
The new Volvo FE 4×2 rigid trucks feature Day cabs with rear windows, 12-speed I-Shift automated transmissions and are powered by the six cylinder 7.7 litre Volvo D8K engines producing 250hp.
Bodywork is by Boughton Engineering of Wolverhampton and comes in the shape of the Power-Reach 18 tonne (PR18) skiploader system, which features independent telescopic lift arms, pneumatically-operated tip hooks and heavy-duty cab guards, as well as the company’s pioneering Intacova sheeting system.
The four new 420hp Volvo FMX high B-ride 8×4 tipper trucks with Day cabs feature tipper bodies by Thompsons of Croydon, a 21-tonne rear bogie design and straight front axles for enhanced ground clearance.
All of the new trucks are equipped with Brigade all-round camera and sensor systems. While the newest additions to the fleet benefit from a 3-year warranty, Pinden operates its own in-house 4-bay repair and maintenance centre. “Our fitters get on really well with the team at MC Group in Maidstone and appreciate the support and ready access to parts,” reports Terry.
