Wakefield-based Maia Waste has taken delivery of a Volvo FH Aero 8×4 rigid mounted with hookloader bodywork – meaning eight of the business’ 12 trucks are now supplied by Volvo Trucks.

The new FH Aero was acquired due to the customer’s consistently positive experience with Volvo Trucks, particularly appreciating the product’s driving performance, reliability, and strong reputation across the industry.

Maia Waste’s Managing Director, Paul Noble, says: “Residual value is a big part of our decision-making process, and Volvo consistently holds its own in that area. When we’re planning fleet investments over a 10-year period we need to know the vehicles will retain value and remain viable for resale or trade-in. Volvo gives us that confidence.

“It’s not just about the numbers either. The build quality and durability of Volvo trucks mean they stay in good condition longer, which helps us maintain a high standard across the fleet. That kind of consistency is hard to find, and it’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back to them.”

Specified with power and performance tailored for the job at hand

Supplied by Jason Robinson, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the FH Aero – featuring a Hiab Multilift hookloader – is equipped with Volvo’s D13K Euro-VI engine which delivers 540 hp and a maximum torque output of 2,600 Nm between 1,000 and 1,450 rev/min, for great driveability, efficiency and performance.

The truck is also equipped with Volvo’s 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, with added construction software for off-road applications, enabling perfectly timed gear-changes for an easier, safer and more comfortable drive.

Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS) replaces traditional exterior mirrors. The solution increases the driver’s field of view and performs strongly in rainy and dark conditions, direct sunlight and even when driving in tunnels.

A perfect working environment for Maia Waste’s drivers

Inside the cab, Maia Waste’s chosen driver will reap the benefits of creature comforts such as leather upholstery, dual armrests on both the driver and passenger seats, and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. The inclusion of Volvo’s Lane Departure Warning system in the specification helps to further boost safety.

The truck is backed by a five-year Volvo Gold Contract, which includes preventive maintenance and repairs to guarantee Maia Waste the most comprehensive and personal service, offering total peace of mind.

Founded in 2020, Maia Waste’s fleet operates across Wakefield, Barnsley and Rotherham. Operating seven days a week, its new FH Aero is expected to clock up to 80,000 km annually, servicing commercial and domestic skip, grab, and roll-on, roll-off hire operations.
