Dixon International in Swords, Co. Dublin, have done a deal with Irish Commercials for 30 new Volvo FH 4×2 and 6×2 trucks.

Ten of the new Volvos will be based at their new depot in the UK Midlands at Rugby and the remaining 20 will be based out of Dublin, where Dixon International are currently investing in a custom-built HQ near Dublin Airport.

Dixon International now has a workforce of over 200 employees and a modern fleet of 130 trucks and 250 trailers. The company believes in continually investing in their fleet to keep it modern, reliable and efficient. Their new facility, which opens in April 2016, will enhance the company’s ability to cross dock temperature-controlled and ambient pharma product.

When Dixon International Managing Director, Michael Dixon, was asked about why he made the decision to go with Volvo he explained that “We have a long relationship with Irish Commercials and Volvo in meeting our high expectations. The FH is a quality product and is received very well by our drivers. It is very fuel-efficient which is always a key factor for us and this is helped by Volvo’s telematics system, Dynafleet, which is fitted to all makes in our fleet. This allows us to monitor driver performance which can have a very significant impact on fuel efficiency. We also find that the Volvos maintain excellent residual value which makes quite a difference when the time comes to trade them in.”

Michael added that, “In the case of any unexpected breakdowns, we get a fantastic response in Ireland or in the rest of Europe from the Volvo dealer network. We purchased the trucks from Irish Commercials, which means we have the added support of their aftersales team who have proven to be second-to-none over the past few years. This minimises downtime and gives us peace of mind. Irish Commercials were also able to manage the preparation and registration of the trucks going into the UK.”

Barry Horan, Managing Director at Irish Commercials, speaking about the deal stated that, “We are delighted to have done this deal with Dixons. When Michael Dixon and his team are deciding on new trucks for the fleet, they do a massive amount of research and testing; they measure products and dealers in every category you can think of. A lot of people in the industry are aware of this, and they know that when Michael decides to purchase 30 new Volvo trucks, that it is because they are the very best truck available.”

The new vehicles are all specified with 460 horsepower Euro-6 engines, Globetrotter cabs and are fitted with Volvo’s market-leading I-Shift automated transmission with I-See GPS technology. Volvo’s I-Park Cool integral, independent air-con systems are fitted for when the trucks are parked up. They also boast a range of high-tech safety features including the now standard Lane Keeping and Emergency Braking. Dixons also opted for Lane Change Support and Adaptive Cruise Control and also specified the Visibility Plus Package, which includes Xenon Headlights, Static Cornering Lights and Headlamp Washers.

The 10 trucks were delivered to the UK in November and the 20 will be delivered into Dublin in January. You won’t miss them on the road in Dixons’ stunning aircraft blue livery!
