With their high spec Volvo FH demonstrator liveried up in high profile pink, Volvo Truck dealer Truck and Bus Wales & West are supporting Velindre Cancer Centre – the largest non–surgical cancer hospital in Wales providing Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy and other specialised anti–cancer treatments for over half the people of Wales.
Velindre Cancer Centre has been providing support and care to cancer patients in South Wales for 60 years. On average, every year, Velindre Cancer Centre provides care, treatment and support for over 130,000 out patients and day cases.
The dealership’s innovative idea to throw their support behind this fantastic charitable cause is praised by Velindre Cancer Centre Ambassador Marianne England, who explains that it was personal experience that led to her becoming involved in fundraising, facilitating and promoting the work of Velindre through schemes such as Truck and Bus Wales & West’s high profile demonstrator livery – seen by thousands in Wales and the West Country since the truck first went on the road.
“I started fundraising ten years ago when my sister lost a short battle to Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 43,” says Marianne. “I am now an Ambassador for Velindre Cancer Centre which was an incredible source of support, to not only my sister, but our family, as well as to a wide range of patients and families in and around the area.”
“In order to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause a range of fundraising activities have taken place over the last decade from annual balls, coffee mornings, rugby events along with my son even cycling to his wedding from Cowbridge to Fulham Palace with family and friends last May,” explains Marianne.
In describing the high quality care patients receive from the Velindre Cancer Centre, Marianne adds that; “They are the premier provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. Access to radiotherapy is critical to improving patient outcomes for cancer: the evidence tells us that approximately 40% of patients with cancer would benefit from radiotherapy treatment and recent advances at Velindre means that it can be delivered with remarkable precision. Velindre supports cancer patients and their families through difficult times, and their specially trained and highly-committed staff strive every single day to make this time as comfortable as possible.”
Money raised from their ‘Victory over Cancer’ campaign will be used to fund ground-breaking research and buy specialist equipment, so their staff have access to the most up-to-date training and techniques available.
