A Heathfield-based logistics firm has appointed a new general manager to support and develop its business in East Sussex and the surrounding area. Brian Lee joins Independent Logistics Solutions (ILS), part of Palletways, Europe’s largest and fastest growing express palletised freight network. With an extensive background in management and operations, he joins from Frederick R Miller where he was general operations manager.

Tony Brooks, part of ILS’ management team, comments: “Brian’s appointment is a real positive for the business. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge and we look forward to benefitting from his drive and enthusiasm.

He continues: “He’ll be a great asset to help us grow our Palletways client base and expand the business into other areas at the same time.”

Rob Gittins, managing director of Palletways UK, said: “Whilst the Palletways network centres on infrastructure like hubs and depots, we are essentially a people-based business. Appointing high-quality people is where we can differentiate and drive customer service excellence and business growth.”

ILS was founded in 2013, employs 35 people and is a member of the RHA and FTA. The company covers the TN1-12, TN17-40 and BN20-27 postcodes for Palletways. It’s grown to provide same-day courier and general haulage/storage services to a variety of local customers, delivering items from bricks, office stationery and garden furniture to fresh eggs.

ILS customers benefit from recent IT innovations by Palletways, including track and trace through the Palletways online portal coupled with GPS delivery stamps on PODs. Palletways’ technology also provides email and SMS alerts with an industry-leading two-hour estimated time of arrival for all deliveries, adding further value to the customer experience by saving time and improving visibility.

The company is one of over 115 independent transport providers that are part of the Palletways UK network. They benefit from shared expertise and resources from within the group to deliver consignments of palletised freight to market faster and more cost effectively than ever before. The Palletways Group, famed for its industry-leading IT developments and operational systems, comprises 450+ depots and 20 hub operations, through which it provides collection and distribution services across 24 European countries, including the UK.
