The nation’s favourite parcel delivery company DPD has teamed up with the Department for International Trade (DIT) to support its Exporting is GREAT initiative.

The government-led campaign, which aims to encourage more businesses to export by providing information and insight as well as practical help, was launched in November 2015 and has helped thousands of businesses take their first steps to market overseas.

As a partner in the programme, DPD will be looking to provide practical support at events and workshops as well working directly with the DIT to further the campaign.

As part of DPD group, DPD UK has access to extensive ground and air networks, to provide a range of international services.  DPD Classic specialises in the delivery of parcels to Europe and beyond and includes DPD’s multi-award winning Predict service and access to over 22,000 European DPD Pickup Shops.  While DPD Express is DPD’s global air express network and offers an unrivalled service to more than 230 countries worldwide.

In addition to delivery solutions, DPD also provides exporters with insight into consumer trends globally, and an understanding of the different markets and cultural behaviours that drive sales, to help identify those with the greatest potential.

DPD UK’s export revenues have grown by 130% in the last 5 years and now make up around a fifth of the firm’s UK turnover. UK international delivery services are managed from the company’s purpose-built International Gateway which opened in Hinckley, Leicestershire in 2015.

Claire Nicolas, DPD’s Head of International Development commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be part of the Exporting is GREAT initiative.  We talk to companies every week who are interested in exporting and helping them get started is an increasingly important part of our work.  Our offer for exporters is second to none and includes services UK shippers will already know and love such as Predict, and access to the best parcel shop network in Europe.  But it is also about taking a very consultative approach to helping customers understand the global marketplace and working with them to remove the obstacles preventing them from selling to the world.”

Baroness Fairhead, Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion, said: “The Department for International Trade is delighted that this partnership with DPD will deliver further support for businesses across the country through the Exporting is GREAT campaign.

“With UK exports continuing to rise, there is clear demand for British goods and services across the world. Our recently launched Export Strategy, which has been designed for companies of all sizes, is the start of a new collaboration between government and business to raise exports as a proportion of GDP to 35%. Partnerships with businesses such as DPD will prove crucial to this.”
