One of the UK’s leading logistics operators, Europa Worldwide Group, is well on its way to raising £16,000 to fund a brand-new play area for children at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford, close to the company’s headquarters.

The business pledged to fund the playground in January this year after an employee noticed the current area was in disrepair when visiting a friend’s child. The business has already donated £10,000 to the cause and staff from across its 11 UK sites have since signed up to various events and challenges to raise the remaining funds needed to install the play equipment.

As well as Europa’s kind-hearted staff, the business’ suppliers have pulled together to make donations towards the cause and sponsor fundraising events. So far almost £1,000 worth of cash and raffle prizes have been donated by suppliers from across the country.

Europa’s Leeds Branch Manager Nathan Lynn and Regional Manager, Adrian Redmile plan to tackle the Sheffield half-marathon on the 8th April in aid of the project.

In Birmingham, Europa’s Telesales Manager, Sonal Patel is also planning a charity raffle to contribute, with staff from across the Minworth-based site paying to take part. Other events in the pipeline include a sports day, balloon race and dog racing evening and all money raised will contribute to transforming the hospital’s outdoor space for the children.

Once the full £16,000 is raised, a ship-themed play area will be installed on the Children’s ‘Willow Ward’ at the Hospital, giving sick children the chance to get some fresh air and explore the outside space, helping to give them the best possible experience whilst in hospital.

Carl Potter, HR and Facilities Director at Europa Worldwide Group, said: “We’re delighted with the progress we are making with our fundraising efforts so far. As our first charity project of the year, we wanted to start with a bang and our staff have certainly showed a lot of enthusiasm to raise the grand total.

“When visiting Darent Valley Hospital, it became clear to us that the children were in need of an exciting and refreshed outdoor space and we wanted to help as much as we could. The hospital is very important to all of the staff at our Dartford headquarters and we’re looking forward to smashing our target and seeing the playground installed for the children very soon.”
