The Freight Transport Association (FTA) Driver of the Year 2017 will be named at FTA’s Transport Manager Conference which takes place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 29 November.

The Transport Manager conference series, sponsored by truck manufacturer Iveco and supported by Brigade Electronics, Goodyear Tyres and Microlise, tours the UK from September to November,

giving transport managers and those in charge of road transport fleets the opportunity to hear from key industry speakers and experts on the latest issues affecting their operation.

The Coventry event will also mark the culmination of FTA’s annual search for the best commercial driver in the country, with the presentation of the overall FTA Driver of the Year 2017 title by FTA’s Chief Executive David Wells.  The competition is sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Vans UK Ltd, Bridgestone and Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

Three drivers, Van Excellence Driver of the Year Steve Mumford of BT Supply Chain, 18 tonne truck driver Craig Stewart of Clarke International, and 44 tonne truck driver Thomas Kent of Samworth Brothers Supply Chain are in contention for the top prize, after winning their individual category competition earlier in the year.   They were judged in six separate tasks in order to evaluate their overall ability – driving style, economical driving, manoeuvring, defect checking, knowledge of legislation and risk awareness.

This year’s Transport Manager conference series has broken attendance records, with more operators than ever before from right across the country taking the opportunity to hear from top level speakers on key issues of compliance and business management affecting those in transport and logistics.  The final two events, in London on 22 November and Coventry on 29 November, still have a few places remaining: for further information or to book a place, visit http://www.ftatransportmanager.co.uk or call 03717 11 22 22.

The Freight Transport Association is the UK’s largest and most influential membership association in the freight and logistics sector, with more than 16,000 members operating over 220,000 goods vehicles – half the UK’s fleet.  Established in 1889, FTA’s members move goods by road, rail, sea and air, consigning over 90 per cent of the freight moved by rail and 70 per cent of sea and air freight.
