Transdek UK is launching a completely new form of multi temperature double deck trailer, the Tall Boy, on stand D12 at this year’s TCS&D Show at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, 13 – 14 September 2017.

Developed for Eddie Stobart Logistics to operate on primary and trunking distribution contracts, the Tall Boy offers internal load clearance of up to 2.2 metres on each of its internal floors.

The new trailer can carry up to 55% extra load volume when compared to a single deck trailer, saving up to 35% on delivery miles for products that have previously only been transported by single deck trailers. This is achieved by combining an ultra low chassis with maximum trailer dimensions.

As well as for domestic operations, the Tall Boy is intended to be used to import lightweight, temperature controlled products from continental Europe, cutting up to 35% of ferry costs.

Available in a range of specifications, the TCS&D Show Tall Boy trailer features two temperature zones for highly efficient transport of chilled and ambient products. It includes a Dhollandia tail lift and can be married to Transdek’s double deck loading bay lifts for maximum loading speed.

The Yorkshire-based double deck solutions specialist will also be showcasing its latest, award winning multi temperature Wedge double deck trailer at the exhibition, which has also been supplied to Eddie Stobart. It can transport up to 50 standard pallets or up to 90 roll cages.

“We’re extremely excited about the continuing success of the Wedge trailer and the potential for the Tall Boy,” says Mark Adams, FCILT, Managing Director at Transdek. “We are very proud to be working with Eddie Stobart to help transform the face of UK logistics and we see the Wedge as one of the key elements in that mix.

“We’ve been carrying out trials with some of the country’s leading retailers to demonstrate how they can carry up to seven tonnes more payload and 23% extra load by volume in these trailers when compared to stepframe moving deck trailers.”

The multi temperature Wedge trailer, which won the TCS&D Award for Innovation in 2015, was first developed for Thomas Ridley Foodservice to bring improvements to supply chain efficiency and has saved the company over £200,000 a year in transport costs, as well as reducing annual CO2 emissions by over 190,000 kg.

Both double deck trailers feature Transdek’s unique twin slide rear doors, which have been specifically designed to support optimal double deck operations and maximise internal load height. The doors slide independently within the rear frame, providing the combined benefits of both shutter and barn door types.

The trailers can be loaded by Transdek’s innovative modular surface mounted double deck loading bay lifts for maximum efficiency.
