Oakwood Fuels is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a revised livery and two new trucks from Ryder.

Supplied on a five-year contact hire deal, the pair of Daf CF460 6×2 44-tonne trucks are equipped with Spacecabs and AS Tronic gearboxes, and are the first trucks on Oakwood’s 50-strong fleet to feature the 20th anniversary livery.

Oakwood is the largest provider of hazardous waste collection services to the UK’s motor vehicle franchise network and indeed, Ryder is also an Oakwood customer. Oakwood’s fleet collects and transports a variety of hazardous waste, including oils, to a facility in Nottinghamshire, where the waste oils are either converted into a fuel that can be used as a substitute for heavy fuel oil or exported to refineries in continental Europe to be processed into base oil that can be used to produce lubricating oil.

Ryder’s vehicles will be used to deliver Processed Fuel Oil throughout the UK. They are specified with specialist PTO and hydraulic equipment which increases working space at the rear of the cab, maximising safety, and delivering greater offloading power that Oakwood needs for swifter discharging.

Oakwood was started by Steve Tooley in 1997 with one truck servicing the East Midlands. Over the past two decades, it has grown to become a national operator with more than 100 staff. It was bought by DCC plc in 2011.

Oakwood’s general manager Michael Sneath says: “We’re celebrating this important milestone for Oakwood throughout the year. All vehicles entering our fleet will carry the special 20 years laurel and we’re excited to see the first of these hit the road. We’re a national operator and therefore Ryder’s national coverage and excellent back-up were one of our reasons for selecting them, giving us peace of mind in the unlikely case of something going wrong.”

John Murray, Ryder’s sales and marketing director, adds: “We know Oakwood as a supplier, so it’s great to supply them with vehicles for the first time. At Ryder, we understand how important vehicle uptime and quality of back-up is to an operator like Oakwood. We look forward to supplying them with more vehicles over their next 20 years.”
