Mackworth Vehicle Conversions, part of Imperial Group has announced the introduction of a new cycle safety door, the Mackworth Cycle Vision.  The new product aims to provide greater safety for vulnerable road users, while ensuring fleet operators benefit from more efficient and quicker fitment as well as the lowest cost on the market at only £1,500.

Thanks to an innovative approach, the Mackworth Vehicle Conversion designers have engineered a product which fits the safety glass into the original door using all the current wiring looms and switches, without any regulators or rails obstructing the drivers view.

In addition, the Mackworth product has been designed to keep the passenger window fully operational.  By adapting the window to a horizontal slide, the driver is able to use the window for air circulation or as an exit in an emergency.

Speaking of the new product Andrew Kent, General Manager at Mackworth Vehicle Conversions said: “We are all aware of the dreadful statistics involving HGVs and vulnerable road users in urban areas and it seems in many of those incidents drivers were unable to see cyclists or pedestrians.

Our aim in developing this product was twofold, firstly to provide drivers with an unobstructed view while ensuring they still had the comfort of an opening window, and secondly to provide operators with a product at an achievable price, with the added bonus of fast, nationwide fitment.”

Mackworth’s teams of trained engineers are able to visit sites across the country to fit the Cycle Vision product. An interim Cycle Vision door is fitted initially to keep downtime to an absolute minimum, a process which should be completed within one hour. The engineers transfer the original door to a Mackworth Vehicle Conversions workshop, returning to the vehicle within 48 hours, again fitting the modified door within the one-hour timeframe.

Whilst at the Mackworth Vehicle Conversions workshop the original door is fitted with toughened safety glass, which conforms to IVA and NSSTA standards. The E-marked glass will stop condensation from gathering while still being tough enough for everyday use.  The original door is reinforced to provide extra strength and to stop flex, reducing noise while driving, then an additional internal mirror is incorporated to further reduce visibility issues. A customised door interior is provided to maintain aesthetics within the cab.

Mackworth Vehicle Conversion aims to have further Cycle Vision door options available soon.
