Bibby Distribution won the Freight Transport Association’s (FTA) Leadership in Carbon Reduction Award for its outstanding achievements in cutting carbon emissions across its operations.

The judging panel of industry experts said Bibby Distribution was ‘leading the way’ in freight transport carbon reduction, thanks to a diverse range of emission-busting initiatives and a commitment to sharing best practice.

Rachael Dillon, FTA Climate Change Policy Manager, says: “As a long-standing member of the FTA’s Logistics Carbon Reduction Scheme, Bibby Distribution’s winning entry demonstrated a strong commitment to carbon reduction within its commercial vehicle fleet. It has clearly worked across its customer contracts to develop initiatives focused on operations, vehicles and alternative fuels.”

Duncan Eyre, Bibby Distribution Director, says: “Carbon reduction is a core part of our business. It drives innovation, it leads to more efficient processes, and it’s the right and responsible thing to do. We’re delighted that our commitment to sustainability has been recognised by the FTA and are honoured to be regarded as the industry example to follow in cutting the carbon footprint of logistics.”

Bibby Distribution uses a variety of initiatives to cut emissions and fuel consumption within its vehicle fleet, including the development of a new type of milk collection vehicle that uses less diesel, and dual-fuel vehicles. The 3PL has also implemented advanced processes such as the use of ‘virtual warehouses’ to optimise route planning, and bespoke driver training, to drive carbon reduction at every level of the business.
