Two new-series Volvo FL 18-tonne GVW 4×2 rigids, the first to join the fleet, have gone into service out of the Inverness operating centre of Caledonian Logistics.

 

In addition to being an independent haulier in its own right, Caledonian Logistics is also a member of the Palletways network. The curtainsider-bodied trucks were supplied by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, Aberdeen – the ‘Granite City’ being home to the Head Office of Caledonian Logistics.

 

Both trucks are maintained by Volvo Truck and Bus Centre North & Scotland, Inverness, on a three-year Repair & Maintenance contract.

 

Specification of the day-cab rigids includes the Volvo D8K250, six cylinder, 7.7 litre engine rated at 250hp (184 Kw) and matched to a manual gearbox.

 

The trucks, which are expected to cover in the region of 80,000 kms a year, are engaged on part-load, full-load and multi-drop duties, carrying palletised goods across the north of Scotland.

 

The FLs’ dry-freight bodywork was built by Clydebank, Dunbartonshire-based Tekbo. Both trucks are equipped with Palfinger tail-lifts.
