After three and a half years of planning, preparation and construction, UK Haulier member, Lymm Truckwash opened its new £2.3 million HGV Truckwash facility at Poplar Park, Lymm in Cheshire on the 26-28 November to customers and suppliers.

Drivers were welcomed at the grand opening with hot drinks, mince pies and goodie bags whilst their vehicles were being cleaned by the Lymm team.

During the grand opening, Lymm Truckwash demonstrated their advanced technology incorporated throughout the site. Automatic number plate recognition, or ANPR technology is just one of the systems which enables a fast wash turnaround.

Using ANPR, Lymm are able to dramatically reduce vehicle downtime via automatically scanning a truck’s registration as it arrives on site, and if the vehicle belongs to one of Lymm’s 720 account holders, an e-receipt will be created and emailed to the customer.

The site’s HGV-height kiosks not only mean drivers do not have to exit their cabs, drivers can also pay via fuel or credit card, cash, Snap or Twuk, adding to the overall experience of the truck wash.

The purpose built site, just off J20 of the M6 and J9 of the M56, is just 100 metres from its previous location.

With more than 60,000 HGVs a year passing through the truck wash, the entry and exit of the previous site had proven too inefficient. Hence the recent relocation.

The new site has four gantry vehicle wash bays and eight pressure washers provided by cleaning product specialist, WashTec. With the pre-wash and gantry wash process totalling to an average of eight minutes per truck, WashTec have proven to be a key supplier in the operation of the truck wash.

The site has two external water tanks holding a whopping 50,000 litres, and one external chemical tank with a capacity of 20,000 litres, which then feed into a 1,000 litre internal water tank and separate 200 litre chemical tank.
