A national waste management company has pledged to support jobs for young people in Kent as it celebrates apprentice success.

CSG, the UK’s leading supplier of specialist waste management solutions, is helping four apprentices step up the career ladder at its Aylesford site – and has pledged to create more roles across its growing business.

Adam Brooks, 25, Kane Scott, 23, Carl Rhodes, 28 and Liam Newman, 20, have either completed or are part-way-through their HGV driver apprenticeships and are now looking forward to long careers with CSG.

Adam Brooks, who has now been with the business for 11 months, said: “The apprenticeship provided a great opportunity to develop skills and achieve good qualifications, all while earning a wage at the same time.”

The apprenticeship scheme offered by the company forms part of an intensive training programme, where individuals gain their full LGV licence, along with key skills and knowledge about drainage, waste management and health and safety. At the end of the apprenticeship drivers can be expected to be employed as a full-time driver, with the opportunity to progress within the business.

Apprentice Carl Rhodes, who before joining CSG was a self-employed kitchen fitter, said: “I see a long future with CSG – there are always opportunities to learn new skills.

“Driving a tanker is different to driving a rigid curtain side vehicle, you have to think about the load you are carrying, and my training prepares me for any situation.”

Tara Crump at CSG Aylesford, said: “We are really proud of our HGV driver apprentices. They form an important part of our team, helping our business to grow and allowing us to plan for the future.

“We are pleased to provide secure, long-term careers within an industry that offers more opportunities for training and development than the public might imagine.”

Following in the footsteps of Adam, Liam and Carl is 23-year-old Kane Scott, who joined CSG four months ago. He said: “My uncle, Richard Weston, has worked for CSG for more than 20 years and has always been very happy working here. CSG is clearly a business that values its workers and provides them with great opportunities. I am pleased to be a part of it.”

Neil Richards, managing director of CSG, said: “These youngsters are just at the start of their careers and it is testament to CSG’s reputation for providing training and career opportunities that they have chosen to work here.

“They have the opportunity to develop and learn new skills which will stand them in good stead for the rest of their careers, and hopefully they will choose to stay with CSG for the long term.”
