Somerset-based haulier Massey Wilcox has taken delivery of 16 new tri-axle curtainsiders from Tiger Trailers – a move that sees nearly half of the company’s trailer fleet now built by the Winsford manufacturer.
When Tiger opened its doors in 2014, Massey Wilcox was one of its first customers – thanks mainly to the close working relationships it had built with members of the team at Tiger over the previous two decades. Having successfully delivered its first order, Tiger has now placed 45 tandem and tri-axle curtainsiders into service with the company.

“Our relationship has since gone from strength to strength, and the rapport we’ve built means we can now simply hand over the specs for what we want, knowing that Tiger will deliver a reliable trailer that’s built to last, every time.”
The new curtainsiders are built with a galvanised chassis and floor bearers, providing significant corrosion resistance to help lengthen operational life, though Massey Wilcox still opts for a painted finish to maintain its strong brand image. They also feature a fully-flush floor, EN12642-XL compliant curtains with security mesh, lightweight curtain poles and a GRP aerodynamic front panel – all combining to offer a versatile trailer ideally suited to the variety of loads Massey Wilcox transports.
“The fact that almost half of our curtainsider fleet is now made up of Tiger Trailers speaks volumes in terms of the quality product they provide,” Wilcox continues. “What sets them apart from the competition is the fact we can talk to the senior management team, at any time – it is this kind of reassurance that lets us know we’ve got the best people on the case when it comes to our trailer fleet.”
As a demonstration of Tiger’s personalised approach, one of the latest trailers includes Joloda’s efficient skate and track loading system. Two sunken tracks are built into the floor, these accommodate special rolling skates which are used to elevate the load, allowing it to be quickly and easily ‘rolled’ in or out of the trailer.
“We have a particular customer that transports paper reels that requires back door off-loading; Tiger’s personalised approach meant we could accommodate that request with the Joloda system, helping to give them a genuine competitive edge,” says Wilcox.
The new curtainsiders feature a range of liveries specific to Massey Wilcox customers, plus nine sport the company’s own branding. The new additions join a 100-strong curtainsider fleet which is used intensively across the UK and Europe, with each trailer clocking up close to 60,000 kilometres a year.
Established in 1954, Massey Wilcox Transport remains a family owned distribution and warehousing specialist. The company is a proud member of the Transport Association, to which Robert Wilcox has previously been chairman.
