Gregory Distribution has taken delivery of two new double deck curtainsiders from Tiger Trailers, each with the ability to operate as either a single or a double deck unit – the first of this type to join Gregory Distribution’s large fleet.

Each 13.7m tri-axle straight frame curtainsider has been designed so that the fixed deck can be easily unbolted and removed, affording Gregory Distribution maximum flexibility for its operations – and allowing it to transport a huge range of potential loads.

Gregory Distribution turned to Tiger for the new removable double decks after the Winsford-based manufacturer demonstrated its commitment to innovation with the development of one of the industry’s first pillarless chipliner trailers, which it built for the company in 2015.

Dan Saunders, Technical Support Manager at Gregory Distribution, says: “The versatility of a removable deck was a really important factor in the design; following the success of the chipliner, we knew we could rely on Tiger to meet the challenge.

“We worked really closely with the design team to ensure they understood how we intended to use the load space – the trailers matched the brief perfectly and the entire process was seamless.”

The new removable double decks feature a front aerofoil and rear roof scoop that improve aerodynamics and fuel efficiency – key attributes when considering each trailer will be on the road seven days a week, travelling up to 156,000km a year.

The two new additions join 12 other Tiger trailers already in operation with Gregory Distribution – a mixture of single and fixed double deck variants – and will stay in the fleet for 10 years.

Gregory Distribution, which will celebrate 100 years of trading in 2019, serves more than 400 customers, ranging from local companies to large, multi-national organisations, delivering a wide variety of goods both regionally and nationally.
