Ryder is supplying a further 18 trailers to Expect Distribution to support the organisation’s continued growth.

The Bradford-based firm, which works across the UK and Europe, offers a dynamic approach to palletised distribution, warehousing, and third-party contract logistics, and is a founding member of Palletline.

The additional trailers bring Expect’s contract hire fleet with Ryder to 115 and follows the delivery of 31 vehicles, a mix of tractor units, trailers, and trucks during 2016.

The new tri-axle curtainsiders, manufactured by SDC, include eight bespoke double decker step frame trailers. These are being built specially to service one of Expect’s furniture customers, where there are height restrictions at the delivery location. The other eight curtainsiders are all straight frame trailers, two of them with tail lifts.

“Ryder works closely with Expect to understand our specific vehicle requirements. The bespoke double decker trailers Ryder has supplied for deliveries to one of our furniture customers demonstrates that.”

Last year, Ryder supplied Expect with 21 SDC tri-axle curtainsiders, two 18t Mercedes-Benz Antos 1824L curtainsided trucks, plus eight Mercedes-Benz Actros 2545LS 6×2 tractor units. The vehicles are being used for deliveries to Expect’s customers in food and drink retail and building supplies.

Neil Rushworth, managing director of Expect Distribution, says: “Ryder works closely with Expect to understand our specific vehicle requirements. The bespoke double decker trailers Ryder has supplied for deliveries to one of our furniture customers demonstrates that.

“We have partnered with Ryder for 15 years, starting with just a single trailer, and have steadily increased the fleet size to well over 100 vehicles today. Their service has supported our expansion into a nationwide operation, and we are currently growing organically at around 10% a year. We are targeting contract-based new business, which is ideally suited to Ryder’s contract hire offering.

“Ryder provides full onsite servicing for our trailers. Their engineers are on our site every day, addressing servicing and maintenance requirements, and improving the reliability of our fleet. They have demonstrated continuous improvement across all our KPIs, including vehicle uptime, defects, and roadworthiness.

“Additionally, as a family firm, we appreciate the personal level of service that Ryder provides.”

John Murray, Ryder sales and marketing director, says: “We work hard to understand what a major nationwide logistics business like Expect Distribution requires from their transportation provider. We are delighted to be supporting the growth of their business, and we look forward to further developing our relationship with Expect.”
