Fast-expanding Cartwright has strengthened its long-term partnership with Asda with the delivery of a further 60 double deck curtainsiders and 10 double deck box vans.
This latest order is in addition to the last major order from Asda for 147 double deck curtainsiders delivered to cover the Christmas peak 12 months ago.
This new order, featuring a hydraulic moving deck system and ENXL certification for load security, is the fourth substantial order from the retail giant for Cartwright in recent years.
The new double deck trailers will accommodate a contribution of pallets and cages carrying ambient produce and will be based at Asda distribution centres serving the store network across the UK.
Jon Wilcock, Regional Sales Director of Cartwright commented: “Both engineering teams have worked very closely to further develop and improve the tailored design that has evolved from the previous major orders from Asda.
“We are delighted that we have not only created a bespoke trailer for Asda, but have significantly evolved the product so as to meet their operational requirements.
“We believe we have demonstrated our flexibility as a business in order to meet Asda’s requirements particularly in the vital area of compliance which is obviously a very important driver for the organisation.”
Peter Hey, Procurement Manager, National Fleets for Asda commented: “Safety and compliance are high priorities for Asda on all our trailers, and our major aim for this and the previous order, was to comply with ENXL standard.
“There were challenges in bringing a trailer of this type up to ENXL standard but the evolution of the design from Cartwright overcame any obstacles resulting in improvements on our previous trailers.”
With a strong determination to be compliant with ENXL across the entire fleet of double deck trailers, the Cartwright aftersales team, in conjunction with Cartwright Fleet Services, completed a three month long re-work programme last year converting 236 older trailers to the ENXL standard.
Jon Wilcock commented: “The fact we went through a process in the past of converting the older trailers to ENXL standard in order to ensure compliance, is further evidence of Cartwright’s value added positioning.”
Cartwright Fleet Services also manages the maintenance of Asda’s double deck trailers.
