A £3 million project to expand the Fortec Distribution Network’s hub at Watford Gap has been completed.

The sizeable investment has allowed Fortec to become the first pallet network in the UK to bring both domestic and international freight all under one roof.

It follows several months of renovation work which has seen Fortec create an additional 70,000 sq ft of warehousing space – equating to an extra 50 per cent of operational capacity on the site.

As part of the project the company has also upgraded its security, including its CCTV system, and resurfaced its truck park area.

Over the coming months Fortec will introduce a range of new technologies which will further increase productivity and improve effectiveness and efficiency within the hub and with members across the network.

The company has also implemented a range of new health and safety measures that includes a full review of its safe systems of work and the introduction of an in-house training programme.

Fortec’s relocation to Watford Gap 11 years ago has enabled the company to increase its membership by 38 per cent.

Along the way it has also allowed Fortec to launch a range of new products and services and to develop a number of ground-breaking IT enhancements, in turn strengthening its position as a quality provider.

Craig Johnson, Business Unit Director of Fortec, said the new expansion and improvement of the existing site was the next natural step, enabling the company to continue to grow and develop, and to further strengthen its service, over the coming years.

“This £3 million investment demonstrates our commitment to our members and to continue growing Fortec in the future,” he said.

“The expansion and improvements to our hub will also provide us with an excellent platform for delivering the unrivalled quality of service our members deserve.”
