The Fortec Distribution Network has invested in a new CCTV camera system that tracks the movement of every pallet that enters its Watford Gap hub whilst at the same time enhancing security.
A total of 126 cameras have been installed inside and outside the hub so that every step of a pallet’s journey through the warehouse is monitored and recorded.
Those inside the warehouse have resolution high enough to read address labels attached to individual pallets, increasing transparency of the operation.
The upgraded CCTV is part of a £3 million investment by Fortec that has seen operational warehousing space increase by 50 per cent – another 70,000 sq ft – and brought international freight under the same roof as domestic freight for the first time.
Over and above this investment Fortec has also introduced new LED lighting in and around the site which further enhances the CCTV system’s capability and improves on-site visibility during the night operation.
Two Health and Safety champions have been appointed, an improved system of incident reporting introduced, a Health & Safety day held and extra money has been invested in training, with all site leads, Health and Safety champions and supervisors undergoing IOSH training.

Fortec has invested heavily in technology, being one of the first networks to develop its own app, for use on Android mobiles and tablets, to enable members to keep track of their consignments, wherever they are in the network.
