Bibby Distribution has been selected by Nampak Plastics Europe to work in partnership to provide a transport solution for its High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) packaging, largely thanks to the 3PL’s ability to add value and reduce carbon emissions through its flexible national network.

The new contract means Bibby Distribution will transport HDPE packaging from Nampak’s head office in Newport Pagnell, across the UK to its in-plants and dairy customers.

Bibby Distribution will also act as a 4PL, managing sub-contractors for deliveries in the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands.

Nampak Plastics Europe Managing Director Arnold Mitterer says: “Our challenge is that we produce a low-cost, light-weight product which is high volume, and that comes with a relatively significant transport cost. They have a huge national network that’s extremely flexible which provides us with a value-add solution. This improves our overall efficiency in our transport network.

Bibby Distribution will be investing more than £5 million in fleet and technology improvements over the next year to ensure Nampak reaps the rewards of more efficient operations.

Upgrades will include the introduction of new Euro VI tractor units to provide enhanced fuel efficiency, plus an additional 100 high-cube trailers that maximise the available payload volume.

Nampak will also be taking advantage of the enhanced delivery information that Bibby Distribution can provide through its full-fleet telematics system, which allows complete traceability of orders and will enable the team to identify on-the-move where utilisation can be improved. The contract will also see the introduction of electronic proof-of-delivery for efficient paperless management.
