Haulage and logistics firm ARR Craib Transport Ltd has today (Friday, 9th December) completed a deal to takeover the employees, trading assets and trade of Aberdeen-based McCaul Haulage Ltd. The agreement has been concluded following the decision of founding owner Tim McCaul to retire from the business.

The majority of the staff will move to Dyce-based ARR Craib, which already employs a workforce of 430 across its four locations nationwide. There have been no redundancies as a result of the deal. ARR Craib has also bought McCaul’s fleet of heavy goods vehicles, which includes a number of curtain-siders and flatbeds.

McCaul Haulage Ltd has been serving clients in a wide range of different sectors since its launch in the early 1970s. Working across the UK and Europe, the firm has an excellent reputation as an abnormal load specialist.

Eddie Anderson, chief executive officer of ARR Craib, said the deal offered an opportunity to carry on the legacy of a company which has been a driving force for the haulage industry in the north east of Scotland.

He added: “McCaul Haulage has a first-class reputation amongst its diverse client group for its very high standards of service delivery. When we learned that Mr McCaul planned to retire from the business, we recognised it as an exceptional opportunity to provide continuity for the staff and customers.

“Both ARR Craib and McCaul Haulage have operated in similar sectors and have been a part of the region’s haulage industry for many years. This will enable us to ensure a seamless transition of staff, assets and contracts, and we give an assurance to McCaul Haulage clients that we will continue to deliver the very high standards of customer service that they have become accustomed to over many years.

“We wish Tim the very best for his retirement and hope he takes great pleasure in knowing he steps down while leaving the company in excellent shape. We look forward to staff joining our team and becoming an integral part of the ARR Craib success story.”

ARR Craib was launched in 1983 following the merger of Aberdeen Road Runners and sole trader George Craib. The company is now the largest of its kind in the area, with a fleet of over 300 vehicles and trailers operating from bases and distribution hubs in Aberdeen, Cumbernauld, Stockton on Tees and Great Yarmouth.

The energy sector represents one of ARR Craib’s biggest markets, but it also has an extensive network of customers in the fast-moving consumer goods and construction industries. For more information, visit www.arr-craib.com
