Welton Aggregates, one of the largest independent quarry, aggregate and concrete providers in Lincolnshire, has added two new Range C430 8×4 tippers to its line-up. The new additions have been supplied by Thompson Commercials in Grimsby and are fitted with Broughtons of Barnetby Aggregate tipping bodies, bringing the total number of Renault trucks on the fleet to six, all of which have been delivered in the last 12 months.

Thanks to a buoyant local housing market, Welton Aggregates is busier than ever before and the new Range C430s are being deployed across Lincolnshire, East Midlands and Humberside to manage the extra demand.  Welton Aggregates’ Transport Manager, Guy Tomlinson says: “With new houses being built and our unwavering determination to build a great company reputation, our business is booming. We started with five trucks and now we are up to more than 20.”

“We had been running a Renault Range C460 8×4 tipper for a year and based on its positive performance, fuel economy and excellent service from Thompson Commercials we looked to Renault Trucks when we needed more vehicles,” he adds.

The Range Cs are powered by Renault Trucks’ DTi 11 litre Euro 6 engine, which produces 2550 Nm of torque and is coupled to an Optidriver 12 speed automated manual transmission system which selects the right gear at the right time to suit speed and driving conditions, delivering better mobility and greater comfort while driving. “The drivers love the gearbox and excellent gear change, it just makes their lives so much easier,” enthuses Guy.

Inside the cab, comfort was a key consideration as Guy explains: “8×4 rigid tippers are not usually known for their comfort but the Range Cs with their level of refinement are leagues ahead in this area – the spacious, wider cab has great features and is well laid out, making them a hit with our drivers.”

As well as being comfortable, the Range Cs deliver on durability, Guy notes: “In addition to holding the road really well, we’ve found them to be extremely sturdy, powerful and reliable, ideal for our application in off-road heavy construction and quarry work.  In fact we are so pleased that we’ve just placed an order for another vehicle, an 11 litre 6×4 C380 demountable mixer/tipper.”

For its concrete operation, Welton has also taken advantage of the manoeuvrability and payload potential of three Range C 8×4 tridems, two 460 day cabbed models and a 430 sleeper cab, with rear steer and 8m3 McPhee mixer bodies.  “The Range C 8×4 tridem concrete mixers get into areas a normal 8×4 wouldn’t, which is ideal for the tight spaces we work in, including building and domestic sites as well as caravan parks. We are also able to add a hefty payload bonus, getting 2 cubic metres more into locations where a conventional 6 wheeler usually goes. Making every journey more efficient made perfect commercial sense for our operation,” Guy concludes.
