Currently marking its 30th year in business, Chelmsford-based Dunmow Waste Management has taken delivery of seven new Volvo trucks, supplied by Stephen Askew, Transport Solutions Executive at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre London. All the seven vehicles are Volvo FL 18-tonne rigid models powered by Volvo’s Euro-6, D8K engine producing 250hp matched to nine-speed manual gearboxes.

Dunmow Waste Management also specified additional safety equipment, such as Volvo’s additional passenger door glazing, a Cycle Minder system and a Traffic Angel camera system. “We want to extend vehicle retention periods and that’s our reason for buying Volvo trucks. They are a robust, reliable brand that is built to last,” notes Sam Malins, Managing Director at Dunmow Waste Management.

The new Volvo FLs come fitted with Hyvalift NG2012XL skip loader bodywork with a lifting capacity of between 5.4 and 12 tonnes depending on arm positioning and extension. This equipment also boosts safety features that include remote control operation, automatic sheeting systems and telescopic extending arms.

To maximise profitability with guaranteed 100 per cent uptime, Dunmow Waste Management chose Volvo’s Gold Service Contract for the new group and the Repair & Maintenance contracts will be carried out by MC Truck & Bus Ltd in Essex

“We also opted for Volvo’s Dynafleet management system which lets us benchmark fuel consumption figures in addition to monitoring other data such as idle times and vehicle positioning,” Sam reports.

During the last two years, Volvo trucks have increased their presence within this established operation and the brand now accounts for half of its 26-strong fleet. “Our drivers prefer Volvo trucks, reporting good quality interiors and smoother, more powerful engines than some of our other marques,” concludes Sam.

Behind a visible presence within the local community, the business operates a successful waste management depot. With ‘zero to landfill’ sitting as a key cornerstone within the business, the Dunmow team are clearly engaged and continually advocate the importance of corporate social responsibility. As such, sitting comfortably alongside this environmental cornerstone, is the company’s very public and worthy support for the charity ‘CDKL5 UK’, which sees various skip trucks, including two of the recent Volvo additions, carrying the charity’s branding.
