JDP, the leading national distributor of civils and drainage products, is ensuring its 49-strong truck fleet complies with the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme’s (FORS) Silver requirements with the help of Ryder, a leading independent provider of commercial vehicle rental, contract hire, and maintenance services in the UK.

The latest order of DAF 7.5 tonne LF150 rigids and 18 tonne LF220 dropsides all feature a suite of ancillary equipment that ensures the trucks comply with FORS Silver. The equipment includes turning left audible alarm, Vehcam 360° camera system with in-cab monitor and satnav, side-sensors to alert the driver of any vulnerable road users, and an in-cab camera that monitors driver behaviour.

Ryder is also retrofitting the equipment to the older vehicles in JDP’s fleet. The fleet operates from 26 branches across the UK, delivering to clients in the civil engineering, housebuilding, and agriculture sectors.

The new 18 tonne dropsides are specified with Atlas 135.2E A2 radio remote control cranes: these allow drivers to move around the vehicle while operating the crane, ensuring the drivers are not positioned in one place with a limited view and are able to load and unload the trucks as safely as possible. The cranes can lift 1,510kg at the maximum reach of 8m, while the maximum weight is 3,000kg at a reach of 4.2m.

Jayne Bar, Transport Supervisor at JDP, said: “A lot of our customers and potential customers are looking for us to be FORS Silver as their minimum standard. Ensuring that our fleet continues to meet this standard sends the right message to customers, colleagues and other road-users.

“Safety is a core value in our organisation, and our drivers appreciate the new safety features. As our drivers switch to new vehicles or have the new equipment fitted to existing vehicles, Ryder supplies them with full familiarisation training.

“Partnering with Ryder helps JDP implement a safer and more efficient fleet,” she added.

Terry Hubbard, Senior Account Director at Ryder, said: “JDP’s focus on safety, efficiency, and the environment matches Ryder’s priorities. Our expertise in specialist equipment means we can ensure that JDP operates trucks that meet the FORS Silver standard whether they be new to the fleet or existing.”
