To mark 70 years in the business and in a move that cements a loyal business relationship spanning four decades, Ipswich Plastics Ltd has taken delivery of a Renault Trucks Range D16 MED 4×2 from Thompson Commercials in Boston.

The new Range D, with curtain-sider body built by Transport Enterprises and adjustable roof deflector, joins Ipswich Plastics’ existing fleet of five Renault trucks.  Working on both inter-city and rural operations, the Range D deliver laminates, worktops and boards, together with associated building products, to builders’ merchants, kitchen manufacturers, engineering works, schools, hospitals and private houses throughout East Anglia.

David Finch, Ipswich Plastics’ Managing Director, comments on marking this milestone for the company: “We are delighted to be celebrating seventy years in business and owe our success to having a combination of loyal customers, experienced staff who can share their knowledge with them, together with a reliable transport service. Although we added the Range D vehicle to naturally replace a Midlum of the same size and weight, we have adorned it with a ‘70th Year in Business’ logo and are using it as our celebratory flagship vehicle.”

Ipswich Plastics’ association with Renault Trucks is longstanding, as David explains: “Our relationship with Renault Trucks goes back to the mid 1970s when we were using Commer and Dodge trucks, originally supplied by Ben Cooper Engineering, however the Dodge marque was acquired by Renault Trucks in the 1980s.”

David continues: “Together with its dealers, Renault Trucks has given us a continuously good service. In the early 1990s we were introduced to Richard Laws-Chapman, who at the time was selling Renault Vehicles for Reliance Trucks in Norwich.  Since then, we have built up an excellent working relationship with Richard, and he continues to supply us with our vehicles through Thompson Commercials, Boston Branch.”

“We chose to use Richard and Thompson Commercials to supply our latest vehicle as, once again, they were able to meet all our specific vehicle requirements – we had no need to look elsewhere. Their assistance has been second to none and we eventually expect to replace the remaining Renault Midlum trucks in the fleet with new Range Ds.”

Richard Laws-Chapman at Thompson Commercials notes: “Coincidentally, I am also celebrating my 70th birthday this year, and a total of 54 years in the motor industry. I am delighted to supply such a wonderful and loyal customer with this new vehicle for their significant anniversary and wish them continued success for decades to come.”

The Range D has been supplied with updated livery on full contract hire, including maintenance carried out by Renault Trucks, Felixstowe.
