Agricultural business specialists, Cofco International UK has put five new Volvo FH 460 6×2 Lite tractor units into operation.
“We worked carefully with our Volvo Transport Solutions Executive, Matt Kubot to get the specification right. The new FHs are 400kg lighter than any other vehicle in our fleet,” reports Tom Pountney, Transport Manager at Cofco International UK.
The 4.0m wheelbase Globetrotter 6×2 Lite tractor units are also fitted with alloy wheels and alloy air tanks to maximise payload figures. The I-Shift gearboxes come with Long Haul Fuel Economy software packages and the drivers benefit from the Single Bed living package.
“We tried both Volvo FM and Volvo FH demonstration vehicles prior to ordering the FH 460s,” Tom explains adding, “We received good driver feedback on both models, but the FH came out as our preferred choice. The Volvos are already proving popular. Some of our drivers have said the FHs are the best vehicles they’ve ever driven. The I-Shift gearbox is a particular highlight and its instant response levels, particularly when pulling out into traffic, are really appreciated.”
Cofco International UK will use the new Volvos to haul Wilcox bulk tipping trailers across a wide swathe of the UK mainland, transporting a range of grains, seeds and fertilisers. “The Volvos come with a kerb weight of 8,180kgs. In a business where we’re paid by weight carried, choosing the right vehicle is crucial. We’ll retain the FHs for seven years and have high expectations for the trucks. The order also includes full life Volvo Service Contracts and our local Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia dealerpoint is just a couple of miles from the depot. Our intention is to have all the safety checks, servicing and repairs completed in the late evenings, so the trucks are ready to start work first thing the following morning,” Tom concludes.
