Uttoxeter based, waste and drainage specialists, RTS Contractors have added a new specialised, Volvo FH13 8×4 rigid tanker to its all-Volvo fleet.

Finished in an eye-catching blue, yellow and red company livery, RTS Contractors’ recently delivered Volvo FH rigid is powered by a D13K Euro-6 engine rated at 500hp. Behind this, an AT2612F I-Shift automated manual transmission system includes enhanced Power Take Off (PTO) functions. Completing the power train assembly are Volvo RTS2370A single reduction drive axles with differential and cross locks. The latter bogie provides a 21 tonne design capacity. 

Chris Thorne, Truck Sales Executive at Hartshorne Motor Services Ltd, supplied the 5,600mm wheelbase, High B Ride height chassis.

RTS Contractors opted for Volvo’s single bunk ‘Sleeper’ cab and the interior specification includes an under-bunk fridge freezer. The new FH is also covered by a three-year Volvo Gold Service Contract that will be carried out by Hartshorne Motor Services Ltd.’s Potteries dealerpoint near Newcastle-under-Lyme.

“We have run Volvo trucks for some time now, but this is our first brand new vehicle purchase,” reports Rob Saint, General Manager at RTS Contractors, adding, “The ordering process was straightforward. We needed a good chassis to put under a specialist jet vac tanker. Technically this is a complex vehicle, but the specification was easy to do.”

The new Volvo FH is fitted with a RTN Clayton Vallely high performance combi vacuum tanker. The 1,907mm diameter tank has a total capacity of 4,200 gallons, which includes a 2,200-gallon debris compartment, a 1,800-gallon fresh water section and a 200-gallon liquid ring capacity. A Samson vacuum pump and a Speck jetting pump are also included in the specification. RTS Contractors will operate its latest arrival across the UK mainland, on a variety of job types. 

“Our new Volvo FH with its RTN Clayton Vallely vacuum tanker represents a substantial investment. In our opinion Volvo trucks are the best chassis to put under these complex bodies and we are looking to operate the vehicle for a period between eight and ten years,” Rob concludes.
