With this coming September marking 25 years since the launch of Volvo’s award-winning FH range, Volvo Trucks is lining up a fantastic display of current FH models at Truckfest Peterborough (May 6-7th), as a fitting tribute to this world-beater. This includes the UK public debut of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)-powered FH 6×2 tractor unit and, to provide a unique timeline contrast, Volvo will also be displaying a Version 1 FH16 from 1993.

Showcasing the FH’s long-held reputation for being at the leading edge of vehicle technologies is a Strata Blue coloured FH Sleeper LNG tractor unit, powered by Volvo G13K460 Euro-6 engine. This six in line unit produces its maximum 460hp (338kW) @ 1400 to 1800 rpm, in addition to 2300 Nm of torque between 900 to 1400 rpm. A 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission system and an RSS1356 drive axle with a ratio of 2.64:1 complete the LNG powertrain. The 4100mm wheelbase, 6×2 pusher axle chassis is equipped with 155kg Gas / 170 litre Diesel tanks, in addition to a 65 litre, under cab, Adblue reservoir.

As a fitting acknowledgement to its original launch UK colour, five of the FHs on display will have their cabs finished in a smart Scarlet Red. The remaining FH and FM models will be distinguishable with their Smurf Blue Metallic cabs. Headlining Volvo’s display, a group of current FHs will showcase the three available cab options, Standard, Globetrotter and Globetrotter XL.

The range-topping FH16 tractor unit is fitted with a weight saving, factory-fitted Lite pusher axle, whilst Volvo’s unique technology options I-Shift Dual Clutch and Dynamic Steering will also be present on some of the group. In addition to a number of tractor unit variants, with a wide range engine power outputs from 420 to 750hp, two special FH rigid vehicles include a Thompsons Loadmaster Lite bodied tipper and a 6×2 rigid with steered tag axle. The latter 6000mm wheelbase chassis carries Lawrence David curtainside bodywork. Joining the 2018 FH front line presence is a Volvo FM 4×2 tractor unit fitted with the spacious LXL cab and a 420hp engine.

Providing a fitting contrast to the current FH range is a fully restored Volvo FH16-520 Globetrotter XL 4×2 tractor unit. Subject to a comprehensive restoration programme by Volvo trucks over the last 18 months, the 3700mm wheelbase prime mover features a range-topping CD interior trim levels and twin bunks. This milestone retro truck is also fittingly finished in Scarlet Red paintwork.

Two FH4 tractor units from the Volvo Used Trucks Selected Used programme will also be shown and in pole position is an ex-McLaren Formula 1 team FH13-540 Globetrotter XL 4×2 tractor unit. This ultra-high specification, left-hand drive, 3,900mm wheelbase truck is one of a limited edition that comes with unique McLaren certification and driver goodie bag. Alongside and resplendent in new blue paintwork will be a Used Volvo FH13-460 Globetrotter tractor unit in the popular 6×2 pusher axle set up. This prime mover is equipped with a 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, a 3,900mm wheelbase and fully refurbished wheels.

The Volvo merchandise shop will have a range of Volvo Ocean Race, Volvo Driver Life and Volvo ironmark merchandise including a range of collectable Volvo model trucks. The local Volvo Truck dealer, Volvo trucks and Bus Centre East Anglia will also be selling a selection of their extensive range of Roadcrew truckers’ ‘goodies’, such as cleaning products, security devices, bulb kits etc., together with some special one-off show offers.

For those with a competitive nature, Truckfest visitors will find a Volvo Ocean Race competition and a Used Truck competition on stand, plus there will be a social media competition based around the displayed vehicles to win a Volvo goodie bag.

Finally, Volvo will also have the benefits of their resident MC to keep visitors abreast of all the product offers available throughout the weekend.
