Gary Voisey passed his Class 1 Truck Licence (aka Class C + E) and explains why professional development is not just passing tests but gearing up towards the future with new Actros, that counts.

Whilst we eagerly await new Actros, we turn the conversation to the workshop and the technicians that will be getting their hands on the new model. City West Technician Gary Voisey passed his Class 1 Truck Licence and explains why professional development is not just passing tests but gearing up towards the future, with New Actros, that counts.

What does it mean to pass your test?

“It makes my job easier as if an Actros had problems that only occur whilst loaded, I can drive it with a trailer to help assess the fault rather than getting someone else with a Class 1 to drive for me. I’m also mentoring Oliver, he’s a fantastic apprentice and another possible candidate for apprentice of the year! I think it encouraged him to train for a truck licence and he is training for his Class 2. Not only that he’s also undertaking his PSV which will allow him to drive coaches!” Stated Gary Voisey.

Is the training finished for you?

“No, next up for me is working towards my System Technician Qualification and in fact I have an exam next week! As a team we are also headed to Wentworth Park later in June to gain insight to New Actros, it’s a busy but exciting time for Mercedes-Benz.  New video tutorials, which are guides on the basic operations, have been released by Mercedes-Benz, they are geared at the owners but just as handy for us technicians to have a glance at!” Explains Gary Voisey.

New Actros is launching onto the road soon what does that mean to technicians?

“I’m looking forward to the launch of the New Actros, as I’m eager to check out the new on-board technology but mainly because they have an electronic cab tilt system fitted as standard! Pumping a cab over at 7am is hard work but certainly wakes you up! I’ll be keeping an eye on MirrorCam, it’s naturally a game changer with regards to blind spots and we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the New Actros demonstrators at Avonmouth where we will be provided the first opportunity to discover the technology hands-on before they go out on the road to clients.”
