Cocaine worth an estimate of £100 million has been discovered, concealed in a shipment of banana pulp, as stated by the Home Office.

The drugs were found during an inspection at the London Gateway depot in Essex in November, hidden in a shipping container docked at the port.

Authorities discovered a total of 1,060kgs of cocaine, thought to have been put in the cargo in Colombia and intended to arrive in Antwerp, Belgium, sources confirm.

The discovery on 12 November marks the second-largest shipment of cocaine to be uncovered at London Gateway in the space of two months.

In September, Border Force National Deep Rummage Team officers found 1,155 kilograms of cocaine in a shipment of paper – which was also bound for Antwerp.

The two shipments are not believed to be linked, however, The National Crime Agency (NCA) is investigated the discoveries to identify those involved.
